‘Hong Kong Phooey’ Chopping His Way Into Theaters
Hanna and Barbera are both probably spinning in their graves from the news that came down today that ‘Hong Kong Phooey’ will be getting a live action/animated feature film. Alex Zamm will be directing from a screenplay by David A. Goodman
The animated series followed the adventures of Phooey (AKA “Number One Super Guy”) whose alter ego is that of mild mannered janitor, Penry. He has a Phooeymobile. He takes his ideology from “The Hong Kong Book of Kung Fu.” He has a partner, a police cat named Spot.
Goodman has mostly written for TV, but he has served as co-executive producer on “The Family Guy” and “Futurama.” Zamm’s directing duties have been seen in such classics as ‘Chairman of the Board’ and ‘Inspector Gadget 2.’ That’s right. ‘Inspector Gadget 2.’ The producers behind this adaptation couldn’t even get David ‘Cool as Ice’ Kellogg to step into the director’s slot.
Who could be producing this, you might ask. Oh, it’s Brett Ratner. Ratner will be producing alongside long-time partner, Jay Stern, and Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove of Alcon.
