Lars von Trier’s Controversial ‘Antichrist’ Going Theatrical in October
One of the biggest stories coming out of Cannes this year was the controversy surrounding Lars von Trier’s psychological horror movie, ‘Antichrist.’ Some critics hated the film so much they went ahead and decided to spoil the ending on their sites.
IFC has announced today they are giving the film a theatrical release just in time for Halloween. The film will be getting a limited run in New York and Los Angeles on October 23rd with more theaters to be added after that. The film will also be showing On Demand beginning October 21st. The 23rd release puts the film up against ‘Saw VI,’ but I’m guessing the audiences between these two films will be drastically different.
There is no word on whether the release in theaters will be the NC-17 cut of the film that will be running in theaters over in the UK. It is set for release across the pond on July 24th in its completely uncut state.
Not knowing anything about the film, I am curious to see it in its current state. I would much rather see the film this way than a version of it trimmed up to get into a few more, American theaters. That and the health care system are almost enough to make me pack my bags. That was a joke. But only slightly.
