DVD Review: ‘Eastbound & Down’ Season One
When I tell you that ‘Eastbound & Down’ is the greatest show on television you will argue with me, but your argument will be worthless because Danny McBride will have already kicked your ass. When you combine Jody Hill and Danny McBride then you are guaranteed comic gold platinum diamonds, actually they don’t have a word to describe how amazing those two guys are together.
McBride plays Kenny Powers, an over the top former MLB pitcher who after washing out of the majors is forced to move in with his brother who still lives in their hometown of Shelby North Carolina. Out of work, and out of money he has to resort to substitute teaching the PE class and try to figure out a way back to the top.
His former high school sweetheart April is teaching art at the school and is currently engaged to the douchebag principal. Kenny vows to win her heart back which doesn’t take much since she still seems to have the hots for his ridiculous and crude behavior.
April is played by the absolutely amazing Katy Mixon who had me drooling all over myself all season and left me breathless in the last episode, that is of course until I got a piece of information from CineVegas, but we wont go there.
Jody Hill brings super crude humor to an entirely new level and its a place that I wish more directors/writers would take things. No one compares to this guy, and he doesn’t even have a comedy background! If you loved ‘Observe and Report’ or ‘Foot Fist Way’ then there is absolutely no reason why you haven’t seen this show. Do yourself a favor and buy this today, or else I cant be your friend anymore.
The special features offer up some outtakes, commentary tracks on 3 episodes, and a really awesome making of featurette.
