The film received cheers and boos alike at the Cannes film festival earlier this week, and IFC noticed.  The distribution company has picked up the rights to Lars Von Trier’s controversial, torture porn movie ‘Antrichrist.’

“Since it premiered at Cannes on Monday, we haven’t been able to stop
talking or thinking about ‘Antichrist,’ ” IFC Entertainment president Jonathan
 Sehring said.

Starring Willem Dafoe and  Charlotte
Gainsbourg, ‘Antichrist’ centers on a couple who, after the death of their child, decide to get away for a cabin-in-the-woods retreat.  What sets out to be a weekend of relaxation and mourning turns into horror and torture.

Many who saw the film believe Von Trier stepped over the line in his depiction of some of the more brutal scenes.  Most who saw it claim there is no way the film will be released as is without an NC-17 rating.  Controversy sparked early this week, as well, when certain movie bloggers around the internet decided to spoil certain aspects of the film’s ending.  One such blogger claimed that he would rather spoil a film that he had no interest in anyone seeing.  Needless to say, this caused quite the uproar amongst fellow film sites.

With the controversy surrounding it, IFC will look to distribute ‘Antichrist’ as soon as possible.  When a relese date hits, we’ll be sure to let you know.
