The modern Japanese filmmaking legend Takashi Miike will remake the classic 1963 film ‘The Thirteen Assassins’ originally made by Eiichi Kudo. The samurai film takes place during the shogun era, following a group of 13 assassins who join forces to bring down a problematic ruler.

No word yet on any casting details, but the film is scheduled to begin production this July in Japan’s Yamagature Prefecture. The project is being produced by Jeremy Thomas and Toshiaki Nakazawa, who has recently worked with Takashi Miike and Quentin Tarantino on ‘Sukiyaki Western Django’.

Here’s a little part trailer, part behind-the-scenes video I found for the original 1963 film. Sure, it’s not going to tell you a whole lot, unless you can speak and/or read Japanese, but it’s still a pretty cool little video to watch.
