Fantasy Cast… Who should play ‘The Lone Ranger’?

I can already hear William Tell’s Overture.   The likelihood that we are going to have a big-screen version of ‘The Lone Ranger’ gallop into theaters is becoming more and more of a reality with each, passing day.   Mike Newell (‘Prince of Persia’) is attached to direct.   Johnny Depp is already on board to play the Lone Ranger’s sidekick, Tonto.   I’m sure we are only weeks away from getting some kind of announcement as to who will be filling the lead role in this, more than likely, Summer blockbuster.

Today, we leave the casting up to you.   Who would you choose to play John Reid/The Lone Ranger is a big-screen adaptation?   Would you go for an established, aged actor, such as George Clooney?   Clooney’s name was bandied about a few months back to play the role.   Would you go for a lesser known or younger actor?

Personally, this is where I would go.   Clooney is good, but you need someone whose presence doesn’t overshadow the character.   For your consideration, I submit these three candidates.

Scott Porter

The guy is great on “Friday Night Lights,” and, with ‘Speed Racer’ last year, he has proven he can handle a big-screen role.   He is just one, starring role from breaking out into the big leagues.

But, what about the two stars of CW’s “Supernatural,” Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles?

Either one has the look, and, while Ackles is growing into a much better actor than Padalecki, they are both poised to break out.
