Blu-Ray Review: ‘Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy’
The Movie:
Let me start this review off by saying first and foremost I am NOT a fan of Seth Macfarlane. I am also not a big fan of cartoon’s as a whole, with the exception of Beavis and Butthead. However I must say that after watching this I was surprised at how funny SOME of the stuff was, but for the most part it falls short. There is a bunch of throwback to oldschool 80’s and 90’s cartoon/gaming, Quentin Tarantino, Optimus Prime, Jeff Goldblum, and Ted Nugent. Not to mention that Seth Green does a pretty great impression of Matthew Mcconaughey but not even that is enough to save this series.
The Blu-Ray/DVD is a series of shorts from his youtube web series, this being the “first season” of the ridiculously popular series. The series is very much just like Family Guy, it features a bunch of cut scenes of usually unrelated stuff strewn together. Each scene is separated by a black title and lasts a minute or two. I would compare this to alot like Robot Chicken only with animation, but 50 minutes of this just gets over bearing and repetitive.
My favorite sketch was the one with Mario saving the princess which you can see here:
The Disc:
The blu-ray is presented in the 1080 format, but it honestly doesnt look very much different than watching it in regular standard definition. I could almost guarentee this was just an upconverted standard definition disc that they scaled to be 1080p. The sound is pretty good but not the high definition sound I would have prefered on a blu-ray release.
There are bonus features on the disc but very few and mostly just lame. There is a feature on premiere party that is essentially just like something you would see before an MTV award show on the red carpet. Toss that with a still image gallery and that pretty much does it as far as special features go.
