‘My Suicide’ Tops Gen Art Film Festival
Somebody, please distribute this movie. Â ‘My Suicide’ was the only film at South by Southwest that I saw a screener for, watched in the theater at the festival, and then watched the screener again. Â It is really that damn good. Â The people over at the 14th annual Gen Art Film Festival seem to agree with me.
‘My Suicide’ took home grand jury award for best feature film, the audience award, and the Stargazer Award honoring breakout talent for lead actor Gabriel Sunday. Â This kid really is an amazing actor, and an all-around nice guy. Â I can tell he is one performance from breaking out of the crowd.
‘My Suicide’ tells the story of a media-obsessed high schooler (Sunday) who announces that he is going to kill himself on camera as a class project. Â The film follows the sensationalism and teen angst that follows, as some try to stop him, some try to follow him, and some even try to understand him. Â It’s loaded with over-the-top visuals, incredible animation mixed with live action, and numerous amounts of pop culture references.
