Adaptations
Mark Bomback will attend the ‘Umbrella Academy’
Universal Pictures is developing a feature film adaptation of ‘Umbrella Academy’ as the first project of it’s three-year deal with publisher Dark Horse. ‘Umbrella Academy’ is a comic book series created by My Chemical Romance lead singer Gerard Way. Volume one of the books is now available in trade paper (graphic novel) format and volume two is currently running on stands.
“Umbrella Academy,” which bowed in 2007 and spawned a second series, revolves around a disbanded group of seven superheroes who reunite after the death of their adoptive father, an alien disguised as a famous entrepreneur, and carry out his plan to save the world. — Variety
Mark Bomback (Race to Witch Mountain) has been selected to adapt the books into a screenplay. I won’t even go into this again, as Bomback is another of these writers who I feel hasn’t proven their chops [to me] and is receiving interesting projects. I haven’t read ‘Umbrella Academy’ but have been interested in doing so for a while now. For what it’s worth, I think they could have found a more desirable scribe.
