Box Office Report April 17-19: Zac Is “17” and Gives Hanna the Boot!
Zac Efron and Matthew Perry’s new take on a classic Hollywood theme “17 Again” opened at number one this week with $23 million. This dropped  Miley/Hanna to the number 3 spot only able to scrape together $13 million. The other two films opening this past weekend to mediocre numbers were Crank: High Voltage (6th w/ 6.9 million) and Russell Crowe’s thriller ‘State of Play’ that barely was able to beat the pop princess for #2 with $14 million. Here is how the rest of the top ten fared:
- 17 Again                                                                    $23,722,310
- State of Play                                                             $14,071,280
- Hanna Montana: The Movie                              $13,406,217
- Monsters Vs. Aliens                                             $13,240,233
- Fast And Furious                                                   $11,744,715
- Crank: High Voltage                                             $ 6,936,565
- Observe And Report                                            $ 4,174,939
- Knowing                                                                    $ 3,574,727
- I Love You, Man                                                    $ 3,327,668
- Haunting In Connecticut                                    $ 3,114,892
I am still suprised people haven’t figured out that ‘Observe And Report’ is a good film that they should see. We will have to see if Zac can hold on to the top spot next week when a slew of new films open. Disney’s Earth Day release for the kids ‘Earth’ opens on Wedensday. Friday brings Beyonce’s new spin on a fatal attraction “Obsessed’ , Channing Tatum’s bare-knuckles slobber-knocker ‘Fighting’ , 80’s look film ‘The Informers’ and my pick for the top spot : Robert Downey’s new bio-pic ‘The Soloist’. We will have to see if the kids rule again at the box office or if the Adults decide to get out of the house. Either way I will see you at the movies!
