WAMG attends Horror Hound Weekend 2009
We Are Movie Geeks attended Horror Hound Weekend 2009 in Indianapolis and I have to say, it was bigger and better than we had expected. I spent much of my time meeting people at the event, both fans and celebrities, and took a butt-load of pictures. Jeremy, Allison and Andy were also in attendance, making their rounds and catching up on what all there was to offer during the wicked festivities. Check out our thoughts of the event below along with some pictures from Horror Hound Weekend 2009.

Jeremy’s thoughts:
This was my second visit to the Indianapolis Horror Hound Weekend. I have never been to Fango in Chicago, but, from what I hear, HHW blows that convention out of the water. The people at HHW are nicer, the room is bigger, things are easier to find, and it is much more organized. HHW 2009 was no exception. The attendance doubled since last time I was here, and it was actually a little rough getting from Point A to Point B at any given time. Regardless, HHW 2009 is in the books, and it was a blast.
If I had to recommend one thing to Horror Hound on their convention, I would highly recommend they start offering panels or Q&As with the celebrities in attendance. As it is, they offer the vendor’s floor, where you can buy everything from Rabbit in Red Lounge T-shirts to full-sized movie posters to cookies and candies named after your favorite cult movie references (PB&J Soles, anyone? How about a Sid Haig-stack?).
Then there are the celebrities, who all seem to be at home with their crowd. I don’t know if HHW is just a friendlier place than most, but the celebrities this year all seemed to be having the time of their lives. Jason Mewes was having a rubber band war with Bill Moseley. Derek Mears seems to be the nicest guy this side of George Hardy and was always smiling. John Saxon told a killer story (one that I’m kicking myself in the ass I didn’t Flip) about how a guy tried to hold him up once in the late ’70s, realized it was Saxon, and proceeded to ask him what it was like to work with Bruce Lee.
HHW also offers movie screenings on films you can’t see anywhere else. The level of the films has increased since the last time I was there, and this year they offered screening of films like ‘Mum and Dad’, ‘Shuttle’, and ‘Martyrs’. A second showing of ‘Martyrs’ was added due to attendance levels.
All in all, HHW is a really fun time for the horror fanatic in all of us. The lack of panels and the amount of people crammed into the hall aside, there really isn’t much HHW could do to better itself. Granted, you could hit everything you need to hit in the course of an afternoon and evening, and the purchase of a full weekend pass might not be all that necessary. Regardless, it’s a whole lot of fun, and, from the sound of it, it is a much better horror convention than that other one Fango puts on.
