With the feature film adaptation of ‘Kick Ass’ virtually in the bag, director Matthew Vaughn is in talks with writer Mark Millar to adapt another of his comic books called ‘American Jesus’. Production is slated to begin this summer and will also be produced outside the studio system, just like ‘Kick Ass’.

The story centers on the return of Christ in the modern world, leading to a final confrontation with the Antichrist in a bid to save humanity.

The book, made with artist Peter Gross, originally appeared as a three-issue miniseries in 2006 with the title “Chosen.” When Millar, one of the top writers in the comics field, decided to continue the story as a trilogy of miniseries, the overarching title became “American Jesus.” The second installment is subtitled “The Resurrection” and is due out in the fall. — HR

Mark Millar is one of, if not [arguably] THE top writer in comics working today. ‘Kick Ass’ looks to be totally “kick ass”. He wrote the comic book ‘Wanted’ which became a major Hollywood hit movie. Millar has written for popular titles such as ‘Ultimate X-Men’ and is currently writing a story arc in ‘Wolverine’ that I’ve been following and it’s awesome.

The story, called ‘Old Man Logan’ takes place fifty years in the future after the super villains killed off the super heroes and Wolverine has vowed to live the life of a pacifist in a world engulfed with cruelty and violence. It’s been said that Millar decided to do this story arc because he loved the movie ‘Unforgiven’ and wanted to apply Clint Eastwood’s role to Wolverine.
