SXSW Review: ‘Roadsworth: Crossing the line’
When you think of graffiti artists you probably think of people that go around and make those annoying tags on buildings that look like vandalism. Well you shouldnt, street artists are an emerging trend and they create aesthetically pleasing pieces of work much like the artist that ‘Roadsworth’ is based on.
Roadsworth is to Montreal like Banksy is to the UK, but it wasnt always like that. For a period of time he was seen as a vandal and not the artist that he obviously is. The doc takes you on his journey from being a mysterious underground vandal to being a world renowned artist after being arrested for the same thing that other countries would pay him to do.
The documentary explores the very real aspects of what its like to be an artist that is shuned for expressing that art. The director Alan Kohl went deep inside the world of underground street art, the likes of which probably would have gotten people arrested for just there when the stuff was happening. Its a very moving documentary and fans of any type of art should definitely check this out, see if you would be willing to get arrested to express what you felt inside.
