SXSW 2009 Preview: ‘My Suicide: A Self-Inflicted Comedy’
I’m Archibald Holden Buster Williams. Most people call me Archie. I’m obsessed with movies, making my way through the world’s insanity, and, yeah, a perfect girl named Sierra. Also: I’m going to kill myself. On camera, for my video class’ final project. Is this a high-school publicity stunt, or the only way to cope with hypocrisy and a media-overloaded, ad-saturated society? I’m going to find out. Welcome to my movie.
‘My Suicide’, the dark comedy from David Lee Miller, is an authentic and original film that speaks candidly – sugar-coating nothing – about the reality of contemporary teenage life and the effects of suicide in every town in America. Miller worked with his son, Jordan, and lead actor, Gabriel Sunday, to inject the film with as much teenage realism as possible. The film incorporates live-action as well as animation from Arvin Bautista.
Jay Weissberg from Variety says ‘My Suicide’ “undeniably will connect with younger viewers”. David D’arcy from Screen Daily says “Director David Lee Miller gets at a crucial teenage paradox – an acute focus on self-destruction while stimuli (moving images and sound) are flying in from every direction. Watching the film (and listening to its constant music track of soul-searching songs) is like experiencing hormonal overload.”
For more information on ‘My Suicide’, check out their official website. The film is showing at SXSW three times:
Sunday, March 15th at 1:45PM at Paramount
Thursday, March 19th at 9:30PM at the Austin Convention Center
Saturday, March 21st at 2:30PM at Alamo Ritz 1.
