Movement on Scorsese’s ‘Silence’
It looks like Martin Scorsese’s next film will be ‘Silence’.  The Oscar-winning director is in negotiations with Oscar winners Daniel Day-Lewis and Benicio Del Toro to star.  Gael Garcia Bernal is also circling the project.  Production is expected to kick off in New Zealand later this year.
The film, set in the 17th Century, is about two Jesuit priests who face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and to spread the gospel of Christianity.  Based on the novel by Shusaku Endo, the screenplay was adapted by Jay Cocks.  Scorsese has expressed interest in the project for more than a decade.
This will mark the third collaboration with Scorsese and Day-Lewis. Â They previously worked together on ‘The Age of Innocence’ and ‘Gangs of New York’, the latter of which Day-Lewis probably should have won the Oscar for.
Scorsese’s directing prowess will next be seen in ‘Shutter Island’ to be released later this year.
