Discuss: Do We Need a ‘Scream 4’?
It has been nine years, yes, you heard that right, nine years, since ‘Scream 3’. Â Rumors lately have been scattering worse than fleeing gazelle about a possible fourth installment in the franchise. Â We talked back in January about how the film was maybe, possibly, definitely might be considered being talked about…maybe. Â
Bloody Disgusting could create a complete sister-site with all the ‘Scream 4’ news they have posted in the last month.  Rope of Silicone just updated their site with some information regarding a possible, new trilogy of ‘Scream’ films.
Check out this screen cap:
Not sure how valid this is. Â This could just be someone’s idea of a prank, or it could even be Ropes of Silicone trying to make a name for themselves. Â I’m not saying that is the case. Â I’m just throwing potential ideas out there for what this could actually mean.
What it undoubtedly means, though, is that there are people out there who are clamoring for a fourth ‘Scream’ film. Â A lot of people were disappointed in the way the “trilogy” ended. Â There were no real, big surprises to cap the series off, especially regarding the series’ protagonist, Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell. Â
Good, bad, or indifferent, each progressive film in the franchise made less at the box office than the previous film. Â ‘Scream’ ended up with $103 million domestic/$173 million worldwide. Â ‘Scream 2’ made $101 million domestic/$172 million worldwide. Â ‘Scream 3’ ended up making $89 million domestic/$161 million worldwide. Â None of these numbers were staggering dropoffs from the previous film, but there was a slight decline.
What could ‘Scream 4’ garner in terms of box office and in terms of fan support? Â Would you be interested in another ‘Scream’ trilogy, let alone a fourth film in the series? Â Which would you rather see, a fourth ‘Scream’ film, a new ‘Scream’ trilogy involving new characters but the same Ghostface killer, or a complete reboot of the series?
