Box Office Report Jan.30-Feb.1: Mall Cop gets ‘Taken’ out!
Liam Neeson and his new action flick ‘Taken’ out Gunned Paul Blart: Mall Cop this weekend for the top spot at the box office. Taken brought in $24 million to claim the top spot. Mall Cop was feeling the heat from Elizabeth Banks and her suspense flick ‘The Uninvited that opened with $10.5 million, good enough for 3rd this weekend. As I predicted , this weekends loser was the awful ‘New In Town with Zellweger/Connick Jr opening with a disappointing $6 million in 8th place. Here is how the top ten fared:
- Taken                                                              $24,625,000
- Paul Blart: Mall Cop                                  $14,000,000
- The Uninvited                                            $10,512,000
- Hotel For Dogs                                           $ 8,706,000
- Gran Torino                                                 $ 8,600,000
- Slumdog Millionaire                                 $ 7,680,000
- Underworld: Rise of the Lycans            $ 7,200,000
- New In Town                                                 $ 6,750,000
- My Bloody Valentine 3DÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â $ 4,260,000
- Inkheart                                                         $ 3,700,000
Neeson’s spy thriller ‘Taken’ will have a tough time hanging on to the number one spot with the World’s Greatest Detective, Jacques Clouseau back on the job this weekend in Pink Panther 2. There is something for everyone opening this weekend… an early valentines day entry ‘He’s Just Not That In To You’ and for the kids ‘Coraline’ and the futuristic action flick  ‘Push’. Should be a battle at the box office this weekend.
