Box Office Report Feb. 20-22: Madea Jailed For Taking An Axe To Jason Vorhees!
Tyler Perry’s “Large and In-Charge” alter ego Madea took over the number one spot at the box office with a $41 million dollar opening week for ‘Madea Goes To Jail’. The sentence might have been manslaughter after Perry’s film took an axe to Friday the 13th and dropping it to 6th overall with $7.8 million. The other film opening this weekend was the new cheer-leading flick for the teens, ‘Fired Up’. It’s more like “fizzled Out’ after posting only $6 million and opening in 9th. The Big winner for the weekend at the box office and in Hollywood was ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ that jumped back into the top 5 with over $8 million for the weekend and snagging 8 Oscars on Sunday. After Slumdog taking all of the Oscar Gold Sunday look for a further rise in the box office standings next week. There will be some new blood to contend with next Friday… all the kids will be lining up for the new teeny bopper concert film ‘The Jonas Brothers 3D Concert’. Video Gamers will unite once again for the live film adaptation of ‘Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li’. we will have to see if some one can slip one by Madea and claim the top spot or if the Gray-hair will rule a second week in a row. The stay at the top spot will be short lived either way with the first BIG HIT on the horizon ‘WATCHMEN’ opening March 6th!
