‘The Slammin’ Salmon’ Red Carpet Screening
Broken Lizard hosted the first-ever screening of their fifth feature film, ‘The Slammin’ Salmon‘, starring Michael Clark Duncan as Cleon ‘Slammin’ Salmon. The gang are taking the film to Park City and this was the only private screening before the World Premiere at Slamdance.
As Paul Soter put it: “We’re going to the dance.”
The basic plot surrounds a former heavy weight champ (Duncan) who owns a Miami restaurant and finds himself indebted to the mob. In an attempt to save himself, he makes a contest to see what waiter can earn the most money in one night.
It’s loosely inspired by some of the Broken Lizard troupe’s real-life experiences while working in a Manhattan restaurant.
So, how did Michael Clark Duncan come to the project?
“The main character is a former heavy weight champion, a Mike Tyson-type of guy,” says Steve Lemme.
“There’s a limited number of gigantic, threatening guys that are also funny.” Soter says and adds, “We were lucky enough that he wanted to do it.”
“My greatest fear,” Duncan says, “I felt like I was Shaq on the Phoenix Suns trying to keep up with these guys, and I didn’t want them to change their program, so I told them that whatever I can do that’s funny, just let me know.”
‘The Slammin’ Salmon’ doesn’t have a set release date as of yet, so fans can tide themselves over with the Blu-ray of Super Troopers, which features some hilarious commentaries (including an inspired take-off of MST3K) and great drinking game. If you’re a fan, then this disc is worth the purchase, even if you have the earlier release.
