Box Office Report Jan. 9-11: Clint’s New Ride Is #1!
Clint Eastwood’s acting exodus has expanded widely and taken over the top spot at the box office this weekend. ‘Gran Torino’ brought in $29 million for the no.1 spot this weekend. Torino manages to edge out the new films ‘Bride Wars’ and the ‘Unborn’. Marley & Me managed to stay, sit and roll over in the 4th spot on the box office charts with $11 million. Here is how the rest of the top 10 fared:
- Gran Torino                                       $29,025,000
- Bride Wars                                          $21,500,000
- The Unborn                                       $21,095,000
- Marley & Me                                       $11,350,000
- Case of Benjamin Button                   $ 9,450,000
- Bedtime Stories                                 $ 8,550,000
- Valkyrie                                            $ 6,662,000
- Yes Man                                            $ 6,155,000
- Not Easily Broken                             $ 5,600,000
- Seven Pounds                                   $ 3,900,000
I’m writing this as Kate Winslett is making a sweep at the Golden Globes along with Slumdog Millionaire. Look for the awards push to have The Reader, Slumdog Millionaire, and Revolutionary Road re-enter the top ten next week when the public run out to the theaters to see what they have been missing. There are also some new films opening next week that may have something to say about it also…Paul Blart Mall Cop, Notorious,  My Bloody valentine 3-D and opening wider Daniel Craig’s WWII epic ‘Defiance’. Next week should be a battle.
