2009 SXSW Film Festival Preview

Now that Sundance 2009 is over, its time to start looking to the 2009 SXSW Film Festival in Austin Texas. Hopefully we will be covering this event, as I submitted my press credentials today. Here is what we can look forward to in 2009.

First up on the slate is the new Seth Rogen movie ‘Observe and Report‘ which is supposed to be a dark comedy about a Mall Cop(thanks ‘Paul Blart’ for ruining the mall cop genre) who has to take down a mall flasher. Dark comedy so far hasn’t been in Rogen’s resume, so we will see how this one goes but I am definitely looking forward to it.

One of the more interesting movies showing this year is called ‘Winnebago Man‘, which is a documentary about Jack Rebney. That name may or may not be familiar with you, but I can almost promise you’ve seen the infamous video of him doing a Winnebago commercial and because he forgets his lines curses at the camera instead. Here is the Synopsis for this doc: “Jack Rebney is the most famous man you’ve never heard of – after cursing his way through a Winnebago sales video, Rebney’s outtakes became an underground sensation and an online phenomenon seen by millions. Filmmaker Ben Steinbauer climbs to the top of a mountain and goes deep into the woods to find the recluse who unwittingly became an Internet superstar.”

This will be my first year at SXSW and I am definitely looking forward to it with all of the props that Neil from Film School Rejects has given the festival. Look for more stuff to be posted about SXSW as it gets closer and dont forget to go and snag your tickets to one of the best festivals in the world before they sell out.
