Box Office Report Dec.19-21: Everyone Says “Yes” to Carrey!
Jim Carrey is once again number one at the box office. His new comedy ‘Yes Man’ squeeked by Will Smith’s new film Seven Pounds to land the top spot over the weekend. ‘Yes Man’ brought in a respectable 18 million on this pre-Christmas weekend. The other new opener this weekend was ‘Tales of Despereaux’, an animated kids fim that opened with a little over 10 million, good enough for third. ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’ dropped like the Titanic, falling 66% in sales and finishing fourth. The big mover was Fox’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ that jumped 45% and finished in 8th place still only showing on a meager 589 screens. Here is how the rest of the top ten fared:

It’s a short week for these films. The Holiday feast will begin on Wedensday with the openings of Valkyrie (Tom Cruise), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt), Bedtime Stories (Adam Sandler), Marley & Me (Jennifer Aniston), and the comic book adaptation The Spirit! It Should be a wild holiday weekend!
