Discuss: ‘Casino Royale’ VS. ‘Quantum of Solace’

The new Bond movie is here and out in theaters for everyone to enjoy, so we might as well start talking about the obvious, which of course is the difference between the two movies. Which is the better Bond flick? So here we go, ‘Casino Royale’ VS. ‘Quantum of Solace’. For those of you that have not seen the movie, there are SPOILERS below, so don’t read any further unless you want to let the cat out of the bag.

James Bond 007

First off we have the same James Bond, Daniel Craig and that alone makes both movies leaps and bounds better than the last..well a bunch of 007 movies. The question here is did you like him better in ‘Casino Royale’ or ‘Quantum of Solace’?

Personally I loved his performance in both movies equally, as he makes a great transition from the reboot to this installment and I commend that.

Winner: Tie

Bond Girls

The next issue for me is of course the Bond girls, Olga Kurylenko (Right) goes up against Eva Green(Left). This one isn’t much of a battle, Eva Green completely blows away Olga Kurylenko, at least for me and it would seem to be the same for James Bond as well since the whole movie is about revenge for her death. I had a major problem with Olga’s hair in Quantum, as it just wasn’t that sexy or appealing. Eva Green just oozed sex the entire movie

However I will make a case for the amazing Gemma Arterton who is the only girl that 007 hooked up with in ‘Quantum of Solace’. She did a great job, and looked stunning in her dress, not to mention you get to see her covered in oil ala the ‘Goldfinger’ gold scene. Below you can see her in all forms from the movie..

So if you are putting Eva Green up against Gemma Arterton it would have been a way closer race, but Eva Green wins simply because she is in ‘Casino Royale’ more than Gemma is in ‘Quantum of Solace’

The Story

If you are a fan of story as opposed to over the top action, then ‘Casino Royale’ definitely wins out in this category, of course like any “beginning story” the first movie will have a lot more story line because it has to setup the franchise and show how he became a 007. ‘Quantum of Solace’ is essentially just a big action sequence going from point a, to point f, and it gets a bit tiring after a while. I love action as much as the next guy, but give me some substance as well!

Winner: ‘Casino Royale’

Action

Although I mentioned that it may have been over the top, or in very large doses, the action in ‘Quantum of Solace’ is essentially non stop and of course that beats ‘Casino Royale’ because it had equal amounts of story and action. ‘Quantum’ provides some pretty badass car chases, foot chases, girl chases, boat chases… essentially every chase you can imagine.

Winner: ‘Quantum of Solace’

Overall both of these are instant classics as far as Bond movies go, and when compared to any of the Pierce Brosnan films, they trump them without question. However I will have to say that ‘Casino Royale’ is the better of the two, but ‘Quantum of Solace’ is a fun and enjoyable ride and NEEDS to be seen.
