Why ruin ‘Bull Durham’ with a sequel…?
Writer-director Ron Shelton, the former minor league player turned filmmaker that gave us Bull Durham  (1989), the greatest baseball movie of all-time, is apparently in talks with Tim Robbins to make a sequel to the beloved sports film.
What began as a rumor has now apparently been confirmed. While the story for the sequel is still a “loose” work in progress, the current thinking is something like this:
The immature Nuke LaLoosh managed to squander his Major League career and Crash Davis is now managing the Durham Bulls in Triple-A. Crash and Annie find Nuke “in the middle of a drunken stupor in the middle of his hotel room or something … and bring him back to the majors by teaching him how to throw a knuckleball.”
Shall I say simply this… Shelton should stick with his original gut feeling:
“For 20 years I have said no to a sequel. For the last year we’ve been talking about it. I used to say ‘You can’t do a sequel 20 years later.’ Then the fact that it’s 20 years later started to intrigue me.” — Ron Shelton, in an interview with Times Union
