Director
Soderbergh, Zeta-Jones, Jackman, and ‘Cleopatra’
Steven Soderbergh has never been one to tow the party line. Â He’s anything but a hack, and his latest project proves that. Â The guy has announced he is making a 3D, live-action, rock ‘n roll musical version of ‘Cleopatra’. Â Catherine Zeta-Jones is the titular queen and Hugh Jackman will be playing her lover, Marc Antony.Â
Indie rock band, Guided by Voices, will be providing the songs. Â Former bass player for the group, James Greer, is acting as screenwriter.
Soderbergh will be making ‘Cleopatra’ for about $30 million and will direct it after his next two films are completed.  In the pipeline for Soderbergh are his two-picture biopic on Che Guevara; ‘The Informant’, which he has already finished shooting; ‘Liberace’ starring Michael Douglas; and ‘The Girlfriend Experience’, a low-budget indie film about a $10,000-a-night call girl.
