Scott Goes To ‘Forever War’
One of my favorite directors, Sir Ridley Scott, is finally returning to his strongest and most successful themes….Sci-Fi. It was announced that FOX 2000 has obtained the rights to Joe Haldeman’s “The Forever War.” Scott said the story, “revolves around a soldier who battles an enemy in deep space for only a few months, only to return home to a planet he doesn’t recognize some 20 years later.” Initially slated to be a directorial debut for Richard Edlund, the visual effects genius behind ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark,’ ‘The Forever War’ never got beyond the developmental phase…til now.
Ever since his Oscar-winning ‘Gladiator,’ Scott hasn’t quite been on his game. So glad to see he’s back in his element from which he sprang. ‘Alien’ and ‘Blade Runner’ are the I-Ching of the Sci-Fi genre. Scott will direct ‘War,’ a Scott-Free production, after finishing ‘Nottingham.’
