‘Lethal Weapon 5’ Not Happening
Sure, we love to bring you news about upcoming movies, but we also like to bring news about films that, for sure, aren’t going to happen. Recently, rumors of a ‘Lethel Weapon 5’ were making the rounds. Well, let’s nip this one in the bud right now. It’s not happening.
The LA Times recently spoke with Richard Donner, director and producer of all the ‘Lethel Weapon’ movies. He spoke on the possibilities of ‘Lethal Weapon 5’ and why the film will not happen.
“Mel turned it down,” Donner said. “I would like to think that Mel turned it down because I wasn’t involved. Knowing Mel, I would like to think that. Would that be the kind of thing he does? It sure would be.”
Even with Donner’s involvement, it was less than likely that Gibson would return for a fifth go-around with Detective Martin Riggs. His career has taken a completely different turn in recent years with directing films like ‘The Passion of the Christ’ and ‘Apocalypto’.
“It’s true, Mel and Danny, they’ve done it and to get them back, to provoke them and get some excitement from them to do a fifth one after all this time, you really have to come up with something so solid and so unique and so dedicated to their characters,” Donner said. “Without that I can see their view of, ‘I’ve been there, I’ve done that.’ ”
