The Godfather – The Coppola Restoration Giftset (The Godfather / The Godfather Part II / The Godfather Part III) [Blu-ray]

Definitley the release of the week, The Godfather Trilogy, has been painstainkgly repaired and restored to about as good as these films can posssibly look.   Each movie gets its own disc, no more swapping DVD’s on Part II or VHS is you still role that way, and the extras are plentiful and intriquite.   This collection is a must own for anyone that reads this site, and you should be in line to pick up this title ASAP!   And if you don’t have a Blu Ray player, here is a great deal ($199!!!) to finally take the plunge to enjoy these films at their best.

L.A. Confidential [Blu-ray]

Arguably a Top 3 pick for best crime movies of all-time, this noir-ish masterpiece of dirty Hollywood and Cops in LA is headlined by an A+ list cast with knockout performances by everyone.   Filled with twists, turns, comedy, action, and romance, this movie has it all.   This one is a steal on either format you pick up, but again, I would go with Blu if you have it, and if you don’t, why dont you?

Sex and the City – The Movie [Blu-ray]

The series returns to the big screen and fans of the show were not dissapointed.   Casual fans like myself were though, as the film was less risque and comedy driven as the shows best episodes were and left me sadly disapointed even with not even the highest of expectations.   Either way, if you are buying this, it is because you are a fan of the show, and while it is a nice little story, it was a bit long for my taste.   Either way, it looks good in Blu but the regular DVD is pretty packed as well.   Also, the Extended Cut doesn’t add anything terribly essential or ground breaking.

Blow [Blu-ray]

Blow is a wonderful look at drugs and the power and pain that can cause to one man.   This entertaining picture has plenty of drama, suspense, laughs, and more and pre-super-star Johnny Depp.   Throw in an awesome soundtrack and sharp directing and you have yourself a winner here.   Also it’s based off a true story which makes it all and all more amazing.

Run, Fat Boy, Run [Blu-ray]

This comedy is directed by David Schwimmer and stars the great Simon Pegg.   Pegg’s character decides to run a marathon to prove his love for a lost girlfriend and hilarity ensues.   I’ve heard mixed on this picture, but Pegg is great and I will definitley be renting this soon!

Leatherheads [Blu-ray]

Leatherheads is George Clooney’s third and easily weakest directing performance as the film drags a bit and could have used a few more laughs.   Clooney is wonderful in this though, and he really captures the screwball lead that the film was going for, so he at least nailed that.   The overall theme of out with the old in with the new ways of early Profesional Football kind of works, but in the end, it is a bit of a mess.   See it for Clooney, and enjoy the light screwball fun of it all.

I am a mid 20's film lover that spends his money on film and DVD/Blu-Ray's. I enjoy writing creatively when I can and reviewing films has become a new passion for me in the last year or so. I am also a big Cardinals fan and can be found playing Softball multiple nights a week when in season. I hope you like my opinion, and that's great if you don't, we need less sheep in this world.
