‘The Dark Knight’ – We Are Movie Geeks

Box Office

‘The Dark Knight’

So, I guess ‘The Dark Knight’ will probably crest $400 million dollars today, pushing it past ‘Spider-Man’ to become number seven on the all time highest domestic gross list. By the end of next weekend, I imagine it will be among the top five, where it will enjoy the company of ‘E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,’ ‘Shrek 2,’ ‘Star Wars,’ and ‘Titanic.’Â

The question becomes : Will ‘The Dark Knight’ beat ‘Titanic’ for the number one spot?

‘Titanic’ opened in December of 1997 and remained in theaters until September of 1998. It spent 15 weeks at number one, 26 weeks in the top ten, and then stayed in theaters another 16 weeks. It made 600,788,188 dollars. That’s nuckin’ futs, but…

I believe in Harvey Dent.

It took ten weeks for ‘Titanic’ to crest 400 million. It will take ‘Dark Knight’ less than four weeks. It is still selling out in IMAX… and this is during an economic crisis, where people second-guess a trip to the grocer because of gas prices.

If ‘Dark Knight’ stays in theaters as long as ‘Titanic’ did in ’97-’98, then 600 million should be a breeze.

Not for one moment did I ever think this movie would make this much G.D. money.

Does anyone else have an opinion on this?
