R.I.P.: Estelle Getty passes at the age of 84
Estelle Getty was a fire cracker. She may have been small in stature but she made up for it in personality, acting and just plain “spunk”. Getty, who suffered from advanced dementia, died at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday at her Hollywood Boulevard home, said her son, Carl Gettleman of Santa Monica.” Estelle was a suffering actress for 40 years before striking “Gold” when she landed the role of Sophia on TV’s Golden Girls. Having the motherly look it was a natural for her to play one. She handled the task for Stallone in “Stop or My Mom Will Shoot!” and for Cher in “MASK”. She also played a wise department store executive, Mrs. Timkin, opposite Andrew Mc Carthy in Mannequin. Estelle Getty had a long and prestigious career winning 6 Golden Globe awards for her work on The Golden Girls. As a fan I would like to say ..”Thanks for all of the laughs you have given us over the years” Estelle Getty ,inaddition to her son Carl, is survived by son Barry Gettleman, of Miami; a brother, David Scher of London; and a sister, Rosilyn Howard of Las Vegas.
