DVD Review
DVD Review: ‘Rogue’
I’m here to let you know that if you are looking for a good croc flick then go back and revisit Lake Placid.
The film takes place in the Australian outback and follows an American journalist Pete McKell(MichaelVartan), who joins tour guide, Kate Ryan(Radha Mitchell) and many tourists .The tourists on Kate’s boat are the usual bunch of specially chosen dysfunctional personalities that will frustrate you with their reactions to the overgrown croc. They are all stranded on a sand bar in a tidal pool, the group of tourists are running out of time after the boat has been disabled. After one of them is “taken” quickly, their tour guide(Mitchell),tries to keep them calm. The rest attempt to gather supplies and come up with a ridiculous plan to get off the sand bar as the water starts to slowly rise. I must say,The entire dialogue-free climax almost feels like the incredible satisfying conclusion to a better film. The acting is pretty weak except for Radha Mitchell who I think is not only the most underrated Australian actress but the best of the lot.The effects are dull,no gore or blood like I expected, and the suspense is just too damn dry!
This film is extremely predictable and it makes you wonder how the script managed to raise the budget for this film which failed miserably at the box office. If there is a rainy day and you feel like catching a mediocre horror croc flic then the DVD is worth the viewing. The DVD is set to hit shelves on August 5, 2008.
