‘Marvin the Martian’ will invade the big screen!

Well, this is an interesting surprise. Warner Bros. has teamed with Alcon to develop a feature-film adaptation of the classic Looney Tunes cartoon space villain. For years, Marvin has been harrassing Daffy Duck and has been thwarted repeatedly by Bugs Bunny. Apparently, the studio is aiming the film at kids (obviously), but I hope it doesn’t forget that most fans are now adults and kids today probably don’t even know who Marvin the Martian.

[The plan for the film, which will blend live action and CGI, is for Marvin to come to Earth to destroy Christmas – only for his plans to go awry when he’s trapped in a gift box. Some of my favorite episodes included the ones featuring Marvin and his attempts to dominate Bugs, only to find himself greatly out-witted. Daffy, on the other hand, would repeatedly find himself at the business end of Marvin’s raygun. Only time will tell  how the mixed-medium approach to the film’s production will play out… personally, I’d like to see a 100% animated feature. Regardless, it sounds like fun so long as they don’t botch it up.
