Keanu Reeves is ‘Plastic’ for Wachowski Bros?
In light of the last post I recently wrote involving Keanu Reeves, I find this piece of news somewhat more entertaining. As the “story” goes, a rumor has been spreading as a result of an interview with producer Joel Silver on some German radio program. Said rumor suggests that Silver name-dropped Keanu Reeves as the actor that will be starring as Eels O’Brien (Plastic Man) in the live-action feature film adaptation, based on a script written by the Wachowski brothers prior to the making of ‘The Matrix’ trilogy … furthermore, this project will be the Wachowski’s next directing project.
[*To Avoid ANY Confusion, this has not been substantiated in any way yet and I am not presenting this as anything more than what it is … a rumor.] With that said, this project actually intrigues me. I am sure my critics are well aware of where I stand on Keanu Reeves [at least, they think they do…], but for those who care to indulge me, I’m about to speak (favorably?) of Mr. Reeves. For some strange reason, I am starting to see him in this role … maybe. While I stand firmly on my ground that he’s not an actor with much range, he does have a certain look and/or charisma that works in certain types of films (i.e. – The Matrix, Constantine, Johnny Mnemonic).
Plastic Man hails from the DC Universe and … hold onto your seats, young Marvel geeks, preceeds Mister Fantastic by a good 20 years (give or take a few months). Plastic Man made his first appearance in 1941, whereas Mister Fantastic first appeared two decades later in 1961. Aside from their “stretchy” abilities, the two characters couldn’t be much different. Mister Fantastic was a genius, introverted and occasionally under-confident hero, but Plastic Man was a much more confident, funny and outgoing personality. So, considering this is merely a rumor yet to be given any news credibility … what do we think? Making a Plastic Man movie … ? Directed by the Wachowski brothers … ? Starring Keanu Reeves … ?
