‘Hulk’ reboot succeeds! … but, Marvel balks on sequel?
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, a Marvel insider is quoted saying “We’re happy with the financial results, even if they (only) reach the first film’s levels,” a Marvel insider insisted. “Having a sequel is not the definition of success.” … in relationship to what is in store for the franchise after its reboot has become both a commercial and critical success.
The article mentions how the first ‘Hulk’ helmed by Ang Lee did very well at the box office, but flopped with fans and critics, whereas the reboot ‘The Incredible Hulk’ is likely to meet but not likely to greatly financially exceed the first … all this is being tossed around by the studio execs as they see the substantial production costs weighed against potential earnings from a sequel, noting as well that the base comic book fan market was severely turned off by the first ‘Hulk’ … Understandable, but the corporate suits apparently don’t realize a good thing when they see it. Fans have enjoyed the reboot to great extent and we’ve already been setup for a sequel that fans are already speculating about, including The Leader as the Hulk’s nemesis in the sequel. Marvel and Co. hasn’t completely ruled out a sequel, its still on the table, but the article reads as though the prospect may seem grim. Damn you (studio execs) all to Hell! Didn’t you learn from the first go around that the fans are a pretty darn good source of feedback?
