A Wiffleball Mockumentary … How cool is that?

By  |

Everyone knows wiffleball. Its tough to imagine anyone my age that wouldn’t and most of us have had hours of fun playing the somewhat parodied version of the great American pastime of baseball. If you’ve never played, don’t let this whimsical image fool you… when playing with talent, wiffleball can be an equally tough sport, in its own right.

Filmmaker Roy Patterson is currently working on a new film that is based on this and around this classic recreational yard sport. ‘The Wiffler: The Ted Whitfield Story’ is a mockumentary about the surge in popularity of wiffleball during the 1994 Major League Baseball strike. What an awesome idea, taking real history and applying it to fictional comedy, while also touching on some interesting debate fodder within the professional sports/entertainment industry.

[The Wiffler: The Ted Whitfield Story, which Tommy Reid is currently directing in California. This will be his second feature after 7-10 Split, which starred Patterson and also featured the likes of Tara Reid, Ray Wise, Vinnie Jones, Robyn Lively, Rachel Hunter, and a ton of other left-of-A-List celebs. Set during the Major League Baseball strike in 1994, the film will focus on “a nation turning its eyes to wiffleball and attempts to break the homerun record.†] — from Cinematical.com
