Mixed Feelings about ‘Bad Lieutenant’ remake
These are the moments that make it difficult to be a movie geek. Variety.com has just reported that a remake of Abel Ferrara’s Bad Lieutenant, the 1992 cop drama with a cult status, is in the works. So, immediately I’m going nuts, right? Then I read that Nic Cage is going to star as the lead role, once graced by the enigmatic talent of Harvey Keitel. My God! What are they doing? But, this is where it gets REALLY difficult … Werner Herzog, one of my top five favorite directors of all time, is attached to direct this slap in the face of cinematic honor. [ … breath … ]
Maybe it won’t be so bad? I mean, I’ve NEVER seen a bad movie from Werner Herzog … seriously! I’m not exaggerating. So, while the little devil on my left shoulder is screaming “NARF!!!” the little angelic annoyance on my right shoulder is quietly whispering “Take it easy. Its just a movie. Besides, Herzog will do it justice.” I truly do hope the little squirt in white is right, or I may be overcome by the dark side of the force …
