‘Iron Man’ begins new era for Marvel movies
While it’s necessary to give due credit to director Jon Favreau, a man that has earned new respect from me as talented film-maker, extra credit must also be given to Marvel. Of course, Favreau’s no spring chicken when it comes to making movies and I’ve enjoyed his films in the past. However, Iron Man shows his true ability like no other film he’s made. He’s established a base line, a new sort of benchmark for the superhero genre of movies, at least for Marvel. He’s brilliantly melded the world of the comic book fan with the world of reality, into a movie that any viewer can enjoy. What’s even better, is that there almost certainly will be a sequel and if all turns out, Favreau will get his wish for this to become a trilogy.
With that said, we must give credit to Marvel Studios for its business-saavy game-plan and its genre-saving tactics to recover its rights to the characters and build its strength to finance its own films. While I thoroughly enjoyed the first two X-Men (2oth Century Fox) movies and the first two Spider-Man (Sony) movies, Marvel did not hold the controlling interests in these projects. I honestly believe, especially in the case of the third film in both franchises, if Marvel had the control they now have, these films may have been even better. As for Iron Man, if you haven’t seen it yet, definitely do, and make sure you stay through the credits for an extra “teaser” scene at the end.
