Review: ‘Pineapple’
Well … this is yet another movie I picked up at Blockbuster because I have seen everything else. The cover seemed pretty hot, and risque with a stripper and a few sex scenes. Well, after popping this DVD in and seeing the “trailers” at the beginning I knew that this movie was probably nothing more than some sort of cable porn flick that I could be watching on Cinemax after dark or something.
Let me first say that the acting in this movie is at times less than stellar, and should be expected from a seemingly low budget indie flick. That being said, I kind of enjoyed this flick! I was really impressed with Eliza Swenson who plays the stripper Crystal in the movie. The story follows Andrew, a publishing executive, that has a wife and daughter and leads a pretty happy existence. One day he walks in on his wife and another man, and apparently goes crazy on her. This is never shown, only implied. He is a recovering alcoholic/drug addict and when this happens he decides to go hit the strip club and falls back into drinking. He meets Crystal who is a very innocent looking red head … she gives him the special treatment all night and he drops more than a few bucks on her. He leaves completely smashed after being escorted out. While walking back to his car he meets a hippy looking guy named Skinny. There was something really fishy about Skinny and Crystal that made you think they were up to no good, but its never explored. The movie skips time alot, and at points can be confusing. You watch as this guy’s life falls apart due to his drug addiction, and completely giving himself to the stripper.
The movie is shot really nice, there are a bunch of cut scenes, and flashbacks that are kind of creepy and look really good. I was impressed with the production of it all, usually you don’t get anything that nice in these type of indie flicks.
Eliza Swenson really reminds me of Isla Fisher … the red hair and the sexy, sultry air about her. I think she could really be something big. Hopefully the nudity in the movie doesn’t hurt anything for her future. If you run across the movie, check it out … its worth the time.
