Nick Cage & the movies he didn’t do: ‘Superman Lives’

There is a long list of movies that Nicolas Cage has been attached to, that could have changed the face of the roles. I have been hearing of a bunch of roles that Nick has been cast as, or was in the works of playing and things fell through. I have also found a bunch of movies he was offered that he strongly considered.

The first and most obvious of the Nick Cage didn’t do roles has to be Superman Lives. Everyone knows that Mr Cage is a HUGE comic book geek, and he was dying to play this role..even named one of his kids Kal El. Back in 1996-97 Tim Burton signed on to direct a Kevin Smith version of the script in which superman would wear a black suit and would not fly, and Burton wanted Nick Cage to play superman. So he signed on for a $20 Million pay or play contract which was set for a 1998 theatrical release date. They also considered Jim Carey as Brainiac, Tim Allen as Brainiac, Courtney Cox as Lois, and Chris Rock as Jimmy. Now I shouldn’t have to say this, but if this movie had been made, it would have been HORRIBLE. Things got crazy and Tim Burton hired someone else to redo Kevin Smith’s script. Filming was set to go, the movie went into pre-production and then got put on hold because of its escalating budget. Nicolas Cage dropped out of the project entirely in 2000.

Nicolas Cage would not have been good for superman, and the same could be said for other Super Hero roles … I dont think big name bankable actors do good in these roles. Instead of seeing them as a superhero, you are thinking back to their last big role. Just takes away from the whole experience.
