Neeson, Yun Fat & Bloom join ‘The Red Circle’

In what seems to be an endless torrent of remakes and updates, we do occasionally come across some examples that don’t immediately offend our senses. The Red Circle, a heist film which begins shooting in June, is apparently going to be a remake of a French film of the same title from the 70’s. It has already attached its three leading actors to play the three thieves who team together on a spree of jewelry store and casino robberies. The three characters end up forming a friendship as they attempt to flee the authorities. Liam Neeson, Chow Yun Fat and Orlando Bloom are attached to star. I can totally see this movie being good already, but what really interests me even more is that Johnny To (Heroic Trio) is attached to direct. To is a legend in the martial arts action-fantasy arena, known mainly by fans of the often cult-status genre. As much as I enjoy To’s movies, it will be strange at first seeing him make a movie so far out of his normal shtick, but I’m willing to give anything a try once.
