Nanette Burstein’s ‘American Teen’
American Teenstole the hearts of many at this year’s Sundance Film Festival back in January. Nanette Burstein won this year’s award for Best Documentary Directing for her expose on a group of high school seniors in a small Indiana town and their various cliques. The critics are calling the film “a modern day Breakfast Club“. The High School hunk falls for the shy, dorky girl in the corner, the basketball player is competing for college scholarship – we all remember high school and what it was like.
Burnstein quite familiar with creating documentaries that touch the heart and tap into an audience’s emotions. She and Brett Morgen, who recently released Chicago 10, co-produced and directed Oscar-Nominated On The Ropes in 1999.
Paramount Vantage will be releasing American Teen on July 25th.
On that note, Vantage has already started an interesting marketing campaign on Facebook. As many movies are beginning to do, Vantage will be using Facebook.com as one of the movies official homepages. The page allows you to connect with each person featured in the documentary and track their journey at Sundance.
The Facebook page will also feature the music used in the film and will allow to re-connect with your high school days memories via cliche tags and top ten lists of different high school moments (i.e. 10 things that were awesome about Prom and 10 things I loved about Senior year).
Check out the trailer on Yahoo! Movies. Also, check out James Rocchi of Cinematical review from Sundance of American Teen.
I will continue to follow this film through its release. So check back as WeAreMovieGeeks continues to follow this film.
