Joseph Gordon Levitt cast as Cobra Commander …

Great choice. Joseph Gordon Levitt is a dude on the rise, and I think this will help catapult him into the gigs he should be doing … even though he will be wearing a mask. I have loved him in pretty much everything he has done, most notably Brick and The Lookout … his role and Stop-Loss was good too.

“It’s been suspected, it’s been rumored, and it’s been wisely deduced. Now, it’s official: Joseph Gordon-Levitt admits that he’s playing Cobra Commander in the “G.I. Joe† movie.

“I’ve got a good mask,† he grinned recently, confirming that he’ll play the man who challenges Destro for top dog status in the C.O.B.R.A. organization.

Various sources have revealed that Gordon-Levitt’s mysterious character begins as a close friend of Duke (Channing Tatum), and might even be a former Joe himself; “USA Today† reported recently that the actor is playing “multiple roles.† But this much is certain: By the end of the flick, he’ll be the same blue-clad baddie we all remember.

“Working on the set, it feels like being eight years old and playing with your imagination and action figures,† said the 27-year-old star. “Except they’re [human] tall, instead of [toy] tall.†

Asked if he’s been practicing his lisp, the actor grinned and replied: “I’ve got a good voice, man.†

The former “3rd Rock from the Sun† child star also went out of his way to make sure fans see the line between his current flick “Stop-Loss,† and the cartoonish carnage he’s currently filming. “Regarding ‘G.I. Joe’, people say ‘you’re making two wars movies.’ Wrong, wrong, wrong,† he explained. “‘Stop Loss’ is about a realistic portrayal of what it’s like to be a soldier today. ‘G.I. Joe’ is fun.†

“It’s like going to the circus or getting on a roller coaster,† the future C.O.B.R.A. leader cautioned said of the film, due in theaters in August 2009. “It has nothing to do with reality at all.†”
