Development Update … ‘Ender’s Game’ and ‘Dusk Watch’
. |
In the often fickle and turbulent world of Hollywood, things change, things die and things bounce around like those crazy little balls you get out of vending machines for a quarter. A couple of new development updates surfaced recently … First, Ender’s Game is still being pushed along despite so many years in development Hell. However, the adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s award-winning sci-fi novel will no longer feature famed German film-maker Wolfgang Peterson as its director. Chartoff Productions is currently seeking a new director. Who would be a good fit? Second, at much to my dismay, Timur Bekmambetov has announced he is no longer planning to make Dusk Watch, the third and final installment in what was intended to be a trilogy based on the novel The Twilight Watch. Bekmambetov has been working on the blockbuster action movie Wanted, due out in June. It seems Bekmambetov has developed a taste for Hollywood success. I find this quite disappointing, but wish him well. I do hope that someone perhaps picks up the final installment and at least attempts to make it in Bekmambetov’s place, put that’s probably unlikely as the first two film’s were only moderately successful on the indie/art-house circuit.
