Casting begins for ‘Day the Earth Stood Still’ remake

As much as I tend to shy away from remakes, this is one that I admittedly found myself curious about. Writer-director Scott Derrickson (Hellraiser: Inferno, The Exorcism of Emily Rose) is taking on this massive gamble to modernize the classic 1951 sci-fi film. I have to confess, now that I’ve seen the cast line-up I am minimally thrilled, at best. Who will be playing the role of Klaatu … none other than Keanu Reeves. Ouch! Aside from this, the only other confirmed “stars” are Jennifer Connelly (Awesome!) and Kathy Bates (cool, in her own way). John Cleese and Jaden Smith are rumored to be taking on roles, but nothing firm.
