Call me sceptic … ‘Battle: Los Angeles’ has no appeal
There’s a lot of buzz flying around about this new “sci-fi action” movie that Columbia just picked up, written by Christopher Bertolini. So far, Bertolini has written The General’s Daughter (1999) … and, that’s it. From what I gather, Battle: Los Angeles, as its being called, not only has a horrible title but is basically this: Aliens attack California, the marines battle the aliens on the streets of Los Angeles. What is there to get excited about? Even if the special effects are [unlikely] out of this world [no pun intended] there’s still no real story and its a concept that’s been done to death. The only way to make this unique or original is to do something completely different. All I can imagine is Dragon Wars meets Independence Day. Neal Moritz is producing this project, the same guy responsible for the Prom Night remake. [sigh] I need to go wash my brain.
