I was lolly-gagging around on the Internet today, trying to stay sane while fending off whatever cold bug I’ve had for the last week, when I stumbled upon some random bit of news on this little indie film. Yes, the title is Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead. Yes, it is an odd little vampire comedy based loosely on the great Tom Stoppard play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. The film’s plot is as follows: [Julian Marsh is an out of work and unsuspecting ladies man who still lives in the apartment above his Dad’s medical office. Frustrated by his son’s lack of a career, the good doctor cuts a deal with one of his creepy patients and gets Julian a job directing an off-Broadway play. The play is a bizarre adaptation of Hamlet written by a pale Romanian man named Horatio who is actually a master vampire. Julian recruits some New York actor buddies and a longtime ex-girlfriend to star in the show and they find themselves smack dab in the middle of a two thousand year old conspiracy.] — IMDB.com |
Writer-director Jordan Galland has got quite an unique and interesting project going here. The film was shot in the East Village of New York and is currently in post-production. Galland has an appealing cast including Dustin Hoffman’s son Jake Hoffman (Click, I Heart Huckabees), Devon Aoki (Sin City, War), Waris Ahluwalia (Darjeeling Limited, Inside Man), John Ventimiglia (The Sopranos), Jeremy Sisto (Six Feet Under), Joey Kern (Cabin Fever) and Ralph Macchio (Karate Kid). As if this wasn’t enough to get your indie-film meter tweaking, Galland has also brought on Sean Lennon (yes, the son of John & Yoko) to score the film. I am actually surprised I haven’t seen or heard something on this before now. As of yet, there is no release date that I’ve seen. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this film pop up in a festival or two. I am sure it will play wel in the Big Apple, but I fear my Midwest pals … we will be destined to await the DVD. Regardless, I’m looking forward to seeing what this movie’s all about. |
