Short Film Review: ‘Sick Sex’

I recently viewed a short film called Sick Sex, which was an official selection in the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. The film opens with a brief voice over on the title screen, setting the audience up perfectly. We find out that Ken has been taking care of Amanda while she’s sick in bed. Ken finds himself awkwardly trying to convince Amanda that the two of them should have sex, based on what a friend of his told him about his experience having sex with his sick wife. The marital drama unfolds in a Woody Allen style of character comedy driven by dialogue, accompanied by some very talented editing decisions. Sick Sex is directed by Justin Nowell, written by Justin and Thomas Nowell, produced by Grant Greenberg (also camera) and Todd Barnes and stars Ken Forman and Amanda Gruss. Sick Sex has a delightful 12 minute running time and is definitely worth taking a look.

Justin Nowell sent me a copy of his Short Movie that debuted at Sundance this past year ‘Sick Sex‘. Amanda Gruss and Ken Forman star in this 12 minute comedy short. Although everyone that i read reviews of were expecting sex to be in the movie, that didnt come across to me. I read the premise and knew that it was going to be the Husband/Boyfriend vs Wife/Girlfriend struggle for the guy to get laid while the girl didnt feel like it. This movie is to a T what its like when you are married, the guy wants sex, and the girl doesnt. I loved it.

You can download this movie on iTunes, Netflix, and Xbox Live. I definitely suggest it, and apparently a lot of other people do too, as its the top short movie on iTunes for the last month.

For all of you critics that reviewed this short and gave it a bad review, you have showed just how big of a geek you really are. You probably arent married, if you are you must sleep in separate beds and sex only comes on “special” days. If you arent married, then you certainly arent living with you girlfriend, or maybe you are “one of those guys”. Tell you what, if you want to enjoy this movie do this:

A) Get a girlfriend, or someone that you have sex with on a regular basis if a girl just couldnt stand being around you for long periods of time.

B) try desperately to have sex with them when they are tired/sick/not into it and then rewatch this movie to fully enjoy it.
