Dr. Seuss rules at the box office!
With an entirely respectable $45 million take for the opening weekend “Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who” blasts into the number one spot this week. The adaptation of the widely popular children’s book of the same name dethroned the previous week’s king “10,000 B.C.” which still held up to the competition earning $16 million bringing it’s total to $61 million in it’s second week. In a personal surprise the PG-13 action/adventure fight film “Never Back Down” overtakes the Martin Lawrence & Raven Symone Family Comedy “College Road Trip” for the no. 3 slot. Sony’s Pictures thriller “Vantage Point” hit no.5 , and is nearing the $60 million mark in it’s own right. Jason Statham, and Lionsgate have not done nearly as well as estimated with a meager $13 million thus far for “The Bank Job”. Shockingly, the much-hyped Neil Marshall directed viral outbreak flick “Doomsday” did a POOR  $4.7 million sinking it to a no.7 debut. “Semi-Pro” starring Will Ferrell continues to plummet as “The Other Boleyn Sister”, and Paramount’s “The Spiderwick Chronicles” snag no. 9 & no. 10 respectively. “Jumper” fell off this week, but still snagged no. 11, totaling a very decent $75million overall.
This coming week could bring some contenders as Paramount gives us the new Owen Wilson comedy “Drillbit Taylor” which looks promising. 20th Century Fox hits us with “Shutter”, Joshua Jackson stars in this American remake of a Thai horror. Tyler Perry drops “Meet the Browns” on us, and his stuff usually does well enough. Should be interesting!Â
