‘Bourne’ into greed. When good ideas go bad.
Rotten Tomatoes recently reported a potential travesty in the making. Universal Studios has apparently come to an agreement with director Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon to return to the world of Jason Bourne once again. Why? Ok, we know why … $$$ … it’s my opinion that the studio execs who make these kind of calls should burn in Hell (not really, but I wanted to express my distaste). Robert Ludlum, who is now likely turning in his grave, wrote a trilogy (that means three) and the motion picture adaptation should remain as three. All three movies were great, both individually and as a collective saga. In addition, I thought the trilogy ended perfectly in The Bourne Ultimatum. Any further movies would be based on books written by Eric van Lustbader. I haven’t read them, no need to in my opinion. Maybe its me, but would we stand idly aside if some studio decided to make a fourth installment to the Lord of the Rings trilogy (I’m not referring to The Hobbit) that Tolkien never wrote, or even intended to be written? Exactly … fans would most likely violently storm the glass and steel tower that houses the evil corporate sorcerer. As far as I’m concerned, leave this one alone and put your money into something new. Take my word for it, there’s plenty of literary source material out there of quality just waiting to be adapted.
