Direct to DVD
The Boys are back in town!
That’s right folks. It’s all the buzz in geekville. Corey Haim is officially back on for the long rumored, somewhat anticipated sequel to the wildly popular 1987 Joel Schumacher directed namesake “The Lost Boys“. After news of coming over the wire of Warner doing additional filming for this straight to DVD venture, we have learned the filming was to reinstate all of Corey Haim’s previously disgaurded scene’s as the original film’s lead character, Sam Emerson. With Jamison Newlander, and ofcoarse Corey Feldman also returning this is shaping up to be an ACTUAL sequel. Sutherland is also involved in the film, “but he died in the first one” it’s not Kiefer. Instead, his half-brother Angus Sutherland will star as a vampire in this one.
The full synopsis from IMDB.com reads: The sequel to the 1987 cult hit The Lost Boys takes us to the shady surf city of Luna Bay, California, where vampires quickly dispatch anyone who crosses their path. Into this dark world arrive Chris Emerson (Hilgenbrink) and his younger sister, Nicole (Reeser). Having just lost their parents in a car accident, the siblings move in with their eccentric Aunt Jillian and become new prey for the locals way of life. When Nicole unwittingly falls for a local vampire, Chris must locate and destroy the gangs lifeline before his sisters transformation is complete; to do this Chris finds himself relying on the expertise of none other than Edgar Frog (Feldman). Subtle references to characters from the original film, and cameos from returning actors offer homage to the Lost Boys legend and set a sinister tone of impending doom.
All the feedback that I’ve heard has been positive, and now with the news of Haim re-joining the cast, I for one will be grabbing a copy to put next to the original. Could be surprisingly good, although I could be wrong. There are also talks of a Lost Boys 3 underway, and a second season of the A&E reality show “The Two Coreys” which is said to be darker, and edgier than the previous fare. As apparently the friendship broke down as the first season ended. This could mean a “Simple Life” type of seperate filming may be what we see happen in this case. There could be some promotional tie-in possiblities either way.
